This foundation is in memory of

Barrett Joseph Callaghan

When Barrett lost his life on September 26, 2021, at the age of 25, in an accident caused by a drunk driver, he left behind a hole in our lives and in our hearts.

Who Was “Bear”

Barrett’s life motto can best be described as “When In Need, I’m There”
which is how the WIN IT Foundation was born. He often remarked that he was put on this earth to help his fellowman.

He was affectionately known as “Bear” and “Bearbo” because of his big heart. His love for his family and friends was indescribable. He was a loyal friend who always had the back of anyone he knew; if you knew Barrett, you knew you were protected.

He was a loving son, devoted brother, and loyal friend. He was also a Chicago White Sox fan, high school athlete, fierce competitor, and avid golfer. His love of life radiated onto those around him, and he lit up every room he entered. Most of all, Barrett had an abundance of love for everyone he met.

The Sign of the Rainbow

On the day after Barrett passed, our friends and family gathered to mourn his loss, comfort one another and share our favorite stories about Bear. As we raised a glass to his memory, a rainbow appeared overhead, even though there was no rain. Even more unusual, this rainbow was inverted, as if smiling down on us.

Then, on the night before his funeral, we saw another rainbow above the funeral home. We believe the rainbows were a sign that Barrett was home with God, as he had always believed he would be some day. One of Barrett’s many nicknames was “Bearbo,” and since that day, the “bearbow” has become part of his story.
